Edge Gateway Platforms are Helping to Make Machines Intelligent

Posted by Kari Grosser on Jan 11, 2019 11:00:00 AM

Industry 4.0 is the past, current and next big thing. The idea relies on sophisticated software and machines that communicate with each other to optimize production. Most machine builders are facing strong demands for providing their customers with the machines that deliver productivity, flexibility, efficiency and availability. The more innovative the machine manufacturer is, the better its position in the market. The advent of intelligent machines is enabling machine builders to innovate in ways that have never been possible before, for example, to ensure that machines and other automated equipment work at maximum efficiency with virtually no downtime.

Improved Quality Assurance for Enhanced Productivity

Posted by Kari Grosser on Jan 8, 2019 10:30:00 AM

The pharmaceutical industry is heavily regulated for obvious reasons. Above all, drug makers and associated manufacturers, such as pharmaceutical container makers, mush maintain strict quality controls to ensure the safety of their products, as any faulty products could adversely impact consumer health, to say nothing of severely damaging the image of the company at fault. As such, the industry is typically a relatively late adopter of any innovative technology unless the said technology is directly aimed at ensuring regulatory compliance. However, the power of IIoT-based asset management solutions to improve production line efficiency and reduce costs cannot be denied. Therefore, firms that fail to innovate put their competitiveness at a substantiation risk.

Advantech Ranks Among Taiwan's Top 5 Global Brands

Posted by Kari Grosser on Dec 8, 2018 9:00:00 AM

Advantech is pleased to announce its recent ranking at No. 5 in the 2018 Best Taiwan Global Brands list, with an estimated brand value of 500 million USD. Research for the Best Taiwan Global Brands Award is conducted by Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs and Interbrand, the world’s leading brand consultancy firm. Since its establishment, Advantech has promoted its brand globally and received several Best Taiwan Global Brand awards. However, this is the first time that Advantech has ranked among the top 5.

Linda Tsai, president of Advantech’s Industrial IoT group, highlighted how Advantech has endeavored to incorporate its brand vision into the company culture internally, while emphasizing the goal of “enabling an intelligent planet” externally in order to establish a consistent organizational strategy from the inside out. In recent years, Advantech has served as an enabler in the promotion of the IoT industry. The company has not only developed the WISE-PaaS industrial IoT cloud platform for software/hardware integration, but also shared resources with partners in order to co-create solution-ready packages for rapid deployment in the automation, energy, and smart city industries.

Beginning in 2019, in accordance with its goal of “enabling an intelligent planet,” Advantech will host industry-focused co-creation partner conferences around the world in an effort to build a complete IoT industry supply chain in collaboration with various industry partners. Advantech also aims to expand each vertical domain by using its “co-creation” model to achieve mutual benefits and stimulate innovation in order to jointly enhance the value of Taiwan’s global brands.

Edge Device-to-Cloud, the Future of IoT

Posted by Kari Grosser on Dec 6, 2018 9:45:00 AM

Advantech's device-to-cloud solution realizes the possibility for edge devices to pass equipment and environmental data to cloud platforms directly. They also enable the utilization of cloud platform tools to perform statistical analysis and visualization of data, so that users can understand the status of the equipment and environment at a glance. In addition to solving typical problems associated with building IoT applications, which tend to be widely distributed and composed of many devices, they also reduce inspection costs, improve immediacy, and facilitate the remote management of decentralized sites.

High-performance Embedded Computers Deployed in Substation Inspection Robots

Posted by Kari Grosser on Dec 3, 2018 10:30:00 AM

Electrical substations are crucial for transmitting electrical power between the generating station and consumers. Therefore, inspections must be conducted periodically in order to identify potential safety hazards and prevent power failures. In the past, these inspections were mainly conducted by inspection officers. However, the likelihood of errors and negligence was high due to the heavy inspection workload in large-scale substations, as well as the potentially harsh and challenging working conditions in remote substations. Thus, full-time inspection robots have become an increasing trend in recent years, especially for substations that are unmanaged or have minimal personnel.
