HTML5 is one of those technologies that we use every day without being aware of its presence. It is a standard supported by virtually every web browser, and by just about every software platform containing web server functionality. These web server platforms connect to web browsers via HTML5, eliminating the need for custom coding for interface and integration.
For example, most HMI/SCADA software platforms include HTML5 support. This allows developers to create web browser screens for display on remote devices such as smartphones and tables without having to know the ins and outs of each device.
Before HTML5, just about every remote device had its own interface specifications. This was particularly true in the Android world, which was not as standardized as the iOS platform. HMI/SCADA software packages typically supported a short list of remote devices, and there was no assurance your device would be on the list.
But thanks to the HTML5 standard, you can rest assured your remote device will work with your HMI/SCADA software package. And not only will your device work with current revisions of firmware and software, it will also work through the myriad of software updates which are a fact of life with HMI/SCADA software package and remote devices.
