Overcoming Challenges with Solar PV Monitoring

Collecting, storing and distributing data in real-time is a major issue for the larger solar power plants currently in operation or under construction. These photovoltaic (PV) power plants typically include inverters, convergence boxes, high/low AC/DC power distribution cabinets and other equipment. These items are often supplied by different vendors, necessitating support for multiple communication protocols including DNP2, IEC 60807, Modbus and others.

Once the data is collected, it needs to be stored and distributed so PV plant operators and control personnel can immediately understand operating status through handheld devices or PCs, even if they are far from the PV farms.

The solution is a real-time cross-platform (Windows/iOS/Android) remote operation management system that enables timely control and maintenance of equipment, enhancing the efficiency and safety of PV plants. The system efficiently utilizes communication gateways to collect field data, and then transfers this data to the cloud through wired, 3G/4G/GPRS or Wi-Fi networks. Once in the cloud, the data can be accessed remotely by any internet-connected device of hosting a web browser including PCs, smartphones and tablets. From Edge connectivity to networking infrastructure and remote management, Advantech offers over 500 products fit for a variety of solar solutions.
