Protocol Conversion

rs_232If you’re tasked with integrating legacy control systems into newer automation systems, it’s often necessary to convert one digital communications protocol to another. Fortunately, there are many products available to aid with this task, allowing almost any older protocol to be converted to its modern equivalent.

For example, Advantech’s ADAM 4520, 4520I and 4522 modules convert RS-232 to RS-422/485, overcoming the limited transmission speed, range, and networking capabilities of RS-232 by using differential voltage lines for data and control signals.

Most modern automation systems employ one or more PCs, each of which has multiple USB ports. Advantech’s ADAM-4561/4562 and USB-4604 modules allows PC users to connect a serial device to a USB interface without opening the chassis or powering down the PC.

Using these and other devices will allow you to install and operate your new automation system without having to replace older but functioning legacy control systems.Additional Information
